There are 3 main greek words for Love
Eros Philo Agape

Eros, without going into much detail, is used to describe physical/sexual love.

Philo is an outward display of an affection based on the inward emotions due to interpersonal association with a person. (Phila-delphia means City of Brother Love).

This is the type of love that shows actions/evidence for love that is expressed through words. You show/exchange this with family and friends.

To sum up for those that say they love you:
Love without works is just words!

Agape. this word represents divine, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. Also know as the love that consumes you for the benefit of others. Like the sacrifice of Jesus.
