Question by jackieblue: Is love the most misunderstood word in the english vocabulary and language?
When u think of the love, do u think of physical, emotional, or unconditional? I admit that I have misunderstood it, and I still do. R u honest enough to tell what u know about the meaning of love or if u truly understand that love is not what we often think it is?

You surely don’t know what love i untill you have felt it. But how do you you know when you have felt it?
There’s so many different types of love and extremes, thats all i know for certain.
For example the love for you family isn’t the same as that girl or boy you like. Most ignorant people think you have to be with someone for a long long time to love them, but i dont believe that, as i think love can be felt to someone you have just met. Maybe I’m wrong, thats kinda what i think.

No, it is not. The most misused and misunderstood word in the English language is:

“significant other”

This does NOT refer to one’s romantic partner or the like, but to a specific kind of role-carrier within the Role Theory of Dr. George Herbert Mead.

I wouldn’t exactly say that love is a misunderstood word, rather its a very complicated word. If you look up the definition of the word love what does it say? Are you talking about love as a noun or a verb. Either/or love has several different meanings. Someone can genuinely love someone else because they are rich, physically attractive, good in bed, or because they have great conversations with them. So I can understand how you can say it is misunderstood maybe because your interpretation of the word love is not exactly someone else’s interpretation. When I think of love I think of my parents, and my kids but their is also they love for my friends and significant other, which is a different kind of love. My love for my family is absolutely unconditional but if by chance my friends or significant other decide to do something to hurt myself or my family I can no longer love that person because obviously they didnt love me to begin with because they could hurt me or someone that is close to my heart. Plus love is different at different ages and can be different in different areas of the world. Honestly, my social psychology professor tries to stay away from the word love because it is so complicated. So you might just want to think about what you are trying to ask because everyone’s interpretation of the word love is different and that is a fact.

everybody think different when they hear or read it in English , just like when a person read the bible and think different than others.
sometime English is not the best language to learn but i am stuck with it.
OK, if i said ” i love you” am i talking about i love you in deep in my heart? or i love you as brother or sister?
get it?
sometime , people who go college and studies those english language and keep telling other people “i don’t understand what you are talking about ?”— i tell you the truth those people are be silly! they do understand it, they just be @@sholes. that all i can say.

i would not call love a misunderstood word rather a misunderstood concept.
If i tell you i love you, that means to me that i would die for you, or in your place. Rather than let you suffer i would suffer for you, or in your stead.

That is Love.

Edit;
Love is the fire of life: it either consumes or purifies.
Blesed indeed is the man / women who finds it.

I think every one has or still does misunderstand what love really is. Until about 8 years ago I did not have a complete understanding of the many meanings of love. That is a major flaw with our English language we use only one word for many different emotions and behavior.
Love between two people of the opposite , is most often an erotic love, or a lustful love. Love we have for our children is more of a possessive love. Love of children toward parents is more of a dependent love. Love toward friends is more of a conditional love, you do good by me and I’ll do good by you kind of love. Love of our fellow man is more of a love of tolerance. But real love, Christian love is an unconditional love; a love of choice, a love that goes against our fleshly nature. Fortunately the Greeks had a different word for each separate type of love. So by studying the Greek words for the many facets of love, one can gain a better understanding of love.
God bless
